The death penalty is a possible punishment that state legislatures and court systems can sentence to criminals where execution is performed for illegal activity and wrong doings. Death sentences are often given out to people who commit crimes such as murder, treason, bank robbery, kidnapping, genocide, espionage, or various other crimes that are seen as capital offenses that are punishable by death. Criminals who are sentenced to death are killed by many different methods which include lethal injection, hanging, gas chamber, electrocution, and fire squad.
